Roadsoft launches the first AI-powered Digital Assistant for tachograph compliance in Dutch Road Haulage

Automated driver follow-up of tachograph infringements via phone and WhatsApp makes the process scalable, provable, and inspection-ready

April 15, Amsterdam. Roadsoft introduces the Digital Assistant: the first AI solution in the road haulage sector that automates the entire process of driver follow-up after tachograph infringements. From detecting an infringement to conducting and documenting the conversation with the driver, without any manual intervention. While AI has become commonplace in many sectors, the road haulage industry has until now lacked a solution that takes this process fully off hauliers’ hands. With this launch, Roadsoft is the first Dutch company to take this step.

Why now: enforcement is tightening, the stakes are rising

The launch comes at a time when oversight of tachograph compliance is noticeably intensifying. In 2024 alone, the ILT carried out 1,714 digital inspections at road haulage companies focused on driving and rest time compliance, and at the end of last year a Dutch Transport CPC was revoked for the first time ever. A clear signal that NIWO and ILT are no longer just issuing warnings, but actively intervening. The inspectorate will expand this oversight further in 2026, including remote reading of tachographs. Inspectors are increasingly focused on active supervision: can a company demonstrate that infringements are systematically discussed and followed up on?

"Many hauliers think they're compliant when they're not. Generating a list of infringements is easy, but consistent, documented follow-up is nearly impossible to maintain manually. That's why we developed the Digital Assistant: it informs drivers automatically and records everything in a traceable file."

– Jasper Kapper, owner of Roadsoft

How the Digital Assistant works

The Digital Assistant is part of the Roadsoft platform and works fully automated:

  • Detection: as soon as an infringement is detected, the driver is contacted automatically the next day
  • Contact: the assistant sends a message via WhatsApp or calls the driver, starting an interactive conversation
  • Documentation: every conversation or message is stored in a structured way
  • Inspection file: the system automatically builds a traceable record, so during an inspection you can show exactly what happened and what action was taken

Available by phone or WhatsApp

Alongside the call solution, Roadsoft offers a WhatsApp variant for drivers who prefer to be contacted through the channel they already use daily. The day after an infringement, the driver automatically receives a personal WhatsApp message with an explanation and an instructional video. Easy to read at a quiet moment, without disturbing the driver while driving. Every message and every reply is automatically saved in the compliance file.

Who it's for: from small fleets to the new 2.5-ton tachograph obligation

The Digital Assistant is developed for road haulage companies of every size. For smaller hauliers, where compliance often has to fit in alongside daily operations, it provides the certainty that follow-up happens automatically and on time. For larger fleets, it supports the driver coach by taking routine follow-up off their hands.

A new target group is about to join them: as of 1 July 2026, the tachograph obligation will be extended to vehicles from 2.5 tons used in international road haulage. For many hauliers with vans, this means a completely new obligation, both technically and organisationally. The Digital Assistant makes it possible for this group to work compliantly from day one, without first having to build an internal follow-up process.
